Screen Pass II: super details
Football season’s over (snif!), but I saw a couple details during the Super Bowl worth mentioning.
Previously, it drove me bonkers how CBS offers no indication of possession once a play is underway (there’s superimposed info on the field before a snap, but that’s it). Well, lookit, now! Okay, it’s a white dot that could be missed, but it’s definitely a start.

1998 Acura Integra Type R vs. 2010 Honda Civic Si →
Recently disinterred from somewhere deep in the climate-controlled bowels of American Honda’s Torrance, California, headquarters, it’s undamaged, unmodified, unmolested and almost flawless. And it’s quite likely the nicest Integra Type R left on Earth.
We beat the snot out of it.
Hee.
There’s a lot to love about the look of that Integra, 12 years old or not (my...

The Art of Selling an Expensive Watch →
Because guilt over spending is playing a big role in the sales downturn, he teaches salespeople to suggest a “sorry gift”—of another timepiece—for a wife who might be disappointed that her husband just dropped a sizable sum on his own wrist.
Oh my gods, that’s ridiculous. A “sorry gift”. Dude, just get a Charger, then all you have to do is carry her lip balm.
sigh.

– All at Sea, Surrounded by Red Herrings, A.O. Scott, NYTimes
Cracking up over here. My favorite part of the review might be “Something TERRIBLE is afoot.” You and I both know all-caps like that is a set-up and he follows through quite well.

– Bright Star « Tomato Nation
Yes, that. Straight to credits would have, for me, made the too long, too heavy scenes…worth it? Less noticeable at the very least. Fanny reading his work is something we already know she does: that groundwork’s been laid; on the heels of his death,...

Oh, Dodge, if it weren’t so completely insulting it would be charming how you apparently think stereotyping and discounting us is the right road to take. Because: no. Also: fuck you.

Phantom Menace Reviewer Takes on Avatar →
You see the ultimate irony with Avatar is that for all the time and money spent to make this movie in 3D, the story and characters were still stuck in one dimension.

Progress: 6 down, 15 to go! (list)
Which: The Tao of Wu, The RZA
What I knew about the Wu-Tang Clan before this book couldn’t fill a thimble. Rappers, Shaolin something-something, and a few of My People dig ‘em. Not that I’m an expert, now, but learning about their (okay, mostly RZA’s) history as a backdrop to RZA’s own philosophies worked for me.
He manages to...

Number of times this weekend I tossed my phone at the couch only to watch the still-firm cushions (you’d think maybe after 4 years they’d have squished a bit, but nooo [which isn’t a real complaint; good couch!]) send said phone flying to crash land on the hardwood floors: 5.
