Hamlet (PBS). So, that was pretty great.
Patrick Stewart as both Ghost Hamlet and Claudius (evil!) is what got me to watch this, but I came out of it totally smitten with David Tennant. I don’t know a thing about “Doctor Who”, I’ve only seen his turn as Barty Crouch, Jr. in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Heh.
His Hamlet is so transparent. There’s scheming, to be sure, but it’s all there on his face. I swear I heard a little click when he realizes Rosencrantz and Gildenstern are there to spy. Very impressive.
I really like the production design, too. The handful of sets look (and are lit) like theater stages. You never forget you’re watching a play, but it’s not at all distracting. The CCTV cameras are a nice touch.
