CA Attorney General Jerry Brown modified the language in Proposition No. 8 for the November ballot. And the people behind Prop 8 are PO’d.
At issue: originally, Prop 8 said “to provide that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.” Post-tweak it says that it would “eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry.”
The supporters of Prop 8 are up in arms because now it’s plain as the nose on your face what they’re after and that worries them. They’d much prefer to get people to take away others’ rights via fuzzy, non-definite language. (That’s not my interpreting, it says that right in the article! “… voters might be more reluctant to pass a measure that makes clear it is taking away existing rights.” Sigh.)
