The doodle for Vivaldi’s birthday.
“The Four Seasons” ranking as one of my very favorite (baroque) pieces may not garner me any street cred (heh), but there you have it. I very much like Janine Jansen’s all-soloists version (one instrument per part); it’s so quiet? without losing any of its, y’know, verve.
A sample: “Summer”

I know, again with Copland? Bear with me.

This clip is from “Hoe Down” in the Rodeo suite (again…get. it.).

The first 9 seconds gives you the…pattern¹ (twice, actually) that interests me here. Around 9”, you get it with a winds I’m having trouble placing, but it’s the 12” mark that begins my favorite 5 seconds in the entire suite. I think it’s the only bit of fiddle² solo in “Rodeo” and I love it.

¹ My music vocabulary is a work in progress.
² Given the Copland-context, it seemed appropriate. (:

Love. How could anyone not be excited by this?

Clip from the first part of Copland’s Rodeo suite “Buckaroo Holiday” (get it).

It’s what’s for dinner! You’re thinking of “Hoe Down”. (:
